An accredited live masterclass for maternity care professionals who assist with water births, aimed at improving the assessment of blood loss. During this interactive afternoon, you will combine theory and practice, including practical exercises using a filled birthing pool and realistic blood, and you will receive tools that can be applied immediately in your daily practice.

Assessing blood loss during a water birth requires a sharp clinical eye. Without standard measuring tools, you rely primarily on visual estimation. Research shows that this can be challenging: small amounts of blood loss are often overestimated and larger amounts are more likely to be underestimated
Targeted training can help improve the accuracy of these assessments.
To increase awareness around blood loss during water birth and to equip maternity care professionals with practical knowledge and tools Babypraktijk Noord and Mia Stella developed a digital training on blood loss in water births.
To take this a step further, they are now partnering with Birthpools to offer a one-time in-person event: Accredited Live Masterclass: Estimating blood loss during a water birth.
What does the Live Masterclass include?
During this afternoon session, theory and hands-on practice come together:
- Insight into how blood behaves in water
- Understanding colour variations and what they indicate
- Theoretical background, including postpartum haemorrhage (PPH)
- Practical training with a filled birthing pool and real blood
- Immediately applicable tools, including the VBScore© pocket card
- A practical “Water Birth” working document for use in your own practice
This masterclass offers a unique opportunity to practice in a controlled setting using real blood, something rarely available in standard training.
